God's Plan To Call Us Home
Imagine a young teenage girl, living in a small town. She
is a good kid with good grades in school, but today she
made a mistake. She broke the speed limit. There was no
emergency or other excuse, she simply chose to do things
her way, as we all sometimes do.
As the officer wrote her ticket she didn't get too stressed.
She knew one thing that this policeman did not - her dad
was the town judge.
On her court date she picked out what she knew was her father's
favorite outfit for her to wear and bravely walked into
court. One by one the line infront of her got shorter as
she heard her dad rapidly execute justice to those in the
front of the line. "Guilty. Guilty. Guilty," she
heard. Over and over again thieves, abusers, and other lawbreakers
were receiving a healthy portion of the justice system.
Then she approached her father. Looking up at him she smiled
as she thought about the surprise that would soon come over
her audience's faces when they heard the word "innocent."
She briefly made her case and waited for her father's response:
"Guilty, that will be $200.00," the verdict
rang down!
"What! But dad, I didn't mean to!" she replied,
"Dad, you know I don't have that much money!"
Fighting back her tears, she stood shocked at the verdict.
Then tenderly her father said, "You're right...I know
you can't pay the fine, but you broke the law, justice demands
payment."
"I don't understand," she replied, "what
can I do?"
Her father smiled and
said, "Nothing, just be glad I'm your dad." With
those words the judge slowly pulled out his wallet and took
two crisp $100.00 bills out of his pocket and paid his daughters
fine.
What else could a father and a judge do? If he ignores the
transgression that makes him unfair and partial, but how
could any loving father give a child a hopeless judgement.
By paying the penalty himself, this judge was able to be
both just and gracious.
This is how God treats mankind.
The Bible is a book of relationships. From the very beginning
man had a wonderful relationship with God, but by man's
choice sin entered the world, seperating him from God.
When we choose to sin, we also seperate ourselves from God
because He is totally pure and holy. This seperation breaks
God's heart.
However, His justice would
not allow our sinful rebellion to be ignored, nor would
His love for us allow Him to walk away from His creation.
So God, Himself came to rescue us from our sins in the form
of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 2:5-13)
The only question that remains is whether or not we will
become a child of God. Will we allow God to pay our fine?
We would love to help you study the Bible to find out more
about God's plan to be both just and gracious.
Can We Help?
